Summary

On September 9, 1962, a white light was sighted in the Atlantic Ocean at coordinates 64.26 North, 29.33 West. Military observers reported the object traveling from west to east at unknown speed. The sighting lasted four minutes. The object appeared to be a satellite, initially observed at 35 degrees elevation and 210 degrees azimuth, with final observation at 150 degrees azimuth. A crew of four Navy personnel aboard the USS Orlant observed the object without optical aids. The object moved through the belt of Orion with elevation increasing to 35 degrees and final azimuth 150 degrees. The Air Force concluded the sighting was a satellite.
