Summary

On November 23, 1953, a UFO was reported near Marham, Norfolk, England. A Royal Air Force pilot observed an illuminated object with windows similar to a passenger airliner, with flames appearing from its rear. The object was first spotted at 10,000 feet, heading 260 degrees at a speed greater than 215 knots. It disappeared within 13 seconds. Another sighting occurred at Robert Alston Patterson, a Royal Air Force pilot with 13 years of flight experience, who saw the object under bright moonlight at an altitude of 10,000 to 12,000 feet. Wind was 20 degrees at 15 knots. The area had scattered clouds. A Royal Air Force B-29 aircraft accompanied the sighting. The base intelligence officer concluded the object's phenomenal speed indicated it could not be a conventional aircraft or jet.
