Summary

On December 17, 1953, at about 5:48 p.m. local time over the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii, a military navigator reported objects on radar. The sighting was made from an Air Force WB-29 weather aircraft flying at about 1,500 feet at 164 miles per hour. The radar showed five blips over a period of about four minutes. The objects were not seen by eye.

The objects were elliptical and appeared about the same size as the WB-29. They entered the radar screen from the northwest and traveled west to east. Their estimated altitude was between 1,500 and 2,500 feet. Their estimated speed was about 2,000 knots. They left a trail that gave a comet-like appearance.

The Air Force record lists the conclusion as possible aircraft. The weather was cloudy with high alto stratus and good visibility.
