Insufficient Data

Summary

On February 3, 1961, during the day, a single witness about 2 miles northwest of Van Nuys, California reported two very bright, metallic, oval-shaped objects. Each was slightly larger than a teaspoon at arm's length. Both ovals moved south making oval patterns but did not appear to be in formation.

The objects moved to the south between 45 degrees and the zenith and were very high. The witness gave no precise elevation and did not describe how they disappeared. The sighting lasted about one minute.

The Air Force conclusion was insufficient data. The intelligence officer noted the witness believed in flying saucers, which he felt clouded the report. He suggested the objects were possibly metallic-plastic disc kites flown by children at a nearby school yard, or light aircraft flying between the witness and the sun.
