Project Blue Book Case File
2 Mi E Of Calhoun, La., October 1958October 1958
Summary
On October 14, 1958, at 8:40 p.m., a civilian driving 2 miles west of Calhoun, Louisiana, observed a cylindrical, bluish-white object about the size of a match head held at arm's length. The object was very brilliant and left a trace of green light when it extinguished. Small sparks were projected in the main trail of light. The object moved from north to south with a downward trajectory at an angle of about 20 degrees and followed a steady flight path before the light ended very abruptly, possibly accompanied by an explosion. The observation lasted 2 to 3 seconds. The observer was driving toward Monroe, Louisiana. Memphis Control Center and Monroe radio reported no military or civilian air traffic in the area. Major Henry B. Tyra, Jr., USAF Intelligence Officer, noted that the absence of an orange light or tapered tail tends to discount the probability of a meteorite.
