Summary

On July 1, 1956, a strange object was sighted 17 miles east of Columbus, Ohio. A TWA pilot reported seeing one object traveling from north to south-southwest at 4,000 feet altitude. The object looked like a blue ball with a dark blue streak trailing behind it. It appeared larger than an aircraft. The report was received on July 13 by TWX from Indianapolis ARTCC. Information came from the TWA pilot and a member of the Columbus Fire Department. The Air Force evaluated the sighting as unknown due to insufficient data.
