Summary

On October 30, 1957, witnesses about 10 miles southwest of Houlton, Maine, reported one object. The report came from military sources, including a ground observer and the crew of a B-52 aircraft in flight. The sighting happened around dusk and lasted only about one second.

The object was round and white, about the size of a basketball. It had a long tail that gave off sparks. No sound was heard. It flashed high in the sky and then disappeared from view, moving to the southwest.

This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the information strongly suggested a possible meteor.
