Summary
On July 18, 1962, observers at a Navy location in the South Pacific reported an object at about 1400Z. The sighting was at position 0 degrees 49 minutes south, 170 degrees 24 minutes west, and lasted about 20 minutes.
The object showed a steady white light and was suspected of being a satellite. It appeared very high, bearing about 335 at 20 degrees elevation, and traveled rapidly from north-northwest to south-southeast. It disappeared at about 15 degrees elevation, bearing 120.
This report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. Satellite track data was not available, but the Air Force said there was no indication the object was anything other than a satellite observation.
