Winterset, IowaJanuary 1955
Summary
On January 30, 1955, near Winterset, Iowa, a military pilot reported an unusual object. He was flying a T-33 jet at night at about 20,000 feet. The sighting lasted about 25 seconds.
The pilot described a white light that varied in intensity and seemed to flash at a set frequency. It showed no trail and made no sound. The object made a head-on pass with his aircraft, then maneuvered against his turns by climbing and using bursts of speed. The pilot could not close on it and got no radar contact. The sky was clear with very good visibility.
The report was not made until eight days later, and no aircraft was readily available to investigate, so no field investigation was done. The Air Force listed the case as possibly aircraft.
