Summary

On November 28, 1956, at about 6:00 a.m., a civilian saw one object over Washington, D.C. The witness was a clerk-typist who awoke and looked out her bedroom window. The object was watched for about ten minutes.

The report described a dome shaped object the size of a large beach umbrella, white in color. It was about 25 degrees above the horizon in a westerly direction. The object moved north and disappeared after about five minutes, then returned to its original position. It stayed for about another five minutes before moving north and disappearing again. The morning was cloudless with about 15 miles of visibility, though radar was not working.

The preparing officer noted the bedroom windows were covered with a plastic storm material. He suggested light refraction or distortion may have been mistaken for an object. He said there was not sufficient data for a firm evaluation. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record system for reports of unidentified flying objects.
