Summary

On August 24, 1960, at 11:45 p.m., a Northwest Airlines pilot reported a bright flash of light in the vicinity of Sitka, Alaska. The object was yellowish and changed to green and then red before disappearing instantaneously to the northeast. The observation lasted one and a half to two seconds. The witness was Captain Ashman, a Northwest Airlines pilot, flying four minutes off domestic Sitka. The Air Force concluded the description is characteristic of a meteor.
