Summary

On December 1, 1956, a round object slightly larger than a baseball was reported near Valley City, North Dakota. The object was red to orange in color and located approximately five miles away at about 1,000 feet altitude. A civilian witness observed the object for 15 minutes. It exhibited rapid movements up and down and side to side, and also hovered. When a police car approached, the object rapidly disappeared to the west. Police and Valley City airport personnel lost radio contact with the station at Jamestown, South Dakota during the incident. Contact was regained after the object left the area. The Air Force evaluation is listed as unknown.

10. BRIEF SUMMARY OF SIGHTING: One object round, slightly larger than a baseball. Color red to orange at approx 1000 ft altitude. Object had rapid movements up, down, sideways and hovered. Upon approach of police car obj rapidly disappeared to West. As police got closer to obj, they lost radio contact with station at Valley City. Valley City also lost contact with Jamestown, S.D.
