Project Blue Book Case File
Val Parasio, IndianaSeptember 1961
Summary
On September 16, 1961, at about 8:30 p.m., a civilian near Valparaiso, Indiana, reported an object in the sky. The witness was in a back yard with a telescope. The report was filed on the Project 10073 record card, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The witness first heard a sound like an airplane, then saw a stationary, blinking, red object about 35 degrees above the horizon. Through the telescope it looked white and round. It was watched for about 5 minutes, then disappeared. About 15 seconds later it reappeared lower in the sky, began to move to the northwest, and then vanished. The witness wrote a letter to the Air Force describing the event.
The record card notes the connection between the first and second objects was not established. The card suggests the first sighting may have been aircraft and that a questionnaire was sent but not returned.
