Summary
On April 8, 1950, around 2 a.m., a sheet metal worker in Kokomo, Indiana, reported an object after being awakened by his dog. He said he saw an object about 200 feet up, almost directly overhead. He described it as a grayish metal disk about 15 feet across and 50 feet in circumference, shaped roughly like a child's toy top. He said it had a small conning tower on top and tilted occasionally.
The witness said the object rotated slowly on its vertical axis and showed three small portholes on the outer rim, glowing with a blue-white light from within. After hovering about two minutes, it rose silently and without tilting and moved north at about the speed of a conventional aircraft taking off. He could give no further detail.
The report came from an Army regional office through military channels. The Air Force record (Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports) listed the conclusion as unidentified.
