Summary

On November 12, 1957, around 1:30 a.m. GMT, a civilian near Torrance, California reported a round white object like a bright star, the size of a quarter. The object moved at a high rate of speed and was in sight for about 2 to 3 seconds. During the sighting it appeared to glow very brilliantly, fade almost out, then glow brightly again before it appeared to burn out.

The witness looked up and saw the object move very fast in an arc of about 30 degrees, heading toward the north-northwest. The sky was clear. The report reached the Air Force about 24 hours late, too late for an electrical report.

The Air Force concluded the object was astronomical, a meteor. Officers noted the earth was passing through the Leonid meteor shower at that time. The intelligence officer said the witness possibly observed a meteor. This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
