Summary

On July 5, 1960, pilots of seven military aircraft saw an object in the Texas and Louisiana area. The planes were near Galveston, Texas, DeQuincy, Louisiana, and Lake Charles, Louisiana. The sighting happened at 11:36 p.m. and lasted about 6 seconds. The object was lime green with a whitish glowing tail that seemed to flame or spark. It was much brighter than the average star. It moved at a constant, slow speed in a slightly descending arc from northwest to southeast. It appeared to explode at the end. Visibility was unlimited in bright moonlight. The Air Force concluded the sighting was astronomical. The card said it had all the characteristics of a bolide.
