Tehachapi, CaliforniaOctober 1956

Unidentified

Summary

On October 28, 1956, a civilian saw one object over Tehachapi, California. The object was watched for about 25 minutes during daytime with good visibility.

The witness described one round silver object the size of a dime held at arm's length. It first stayed still at tree top level. It then moved south and slowly faded from view. It was seen with the eyes and through binoculars. The southerly movement did not match the prevailing winds, which were toward the east.

The Air Force noted the object was possibly a balloon and ruled out aircraft because of the long duration. Without wind information the case could not be firmly settled, so it was carried as insufficient data. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record system for reports of unidentified flying objects.
