Tatilek, AlaskaMarch 1951

Unidentified

Summary

Between March 11 and 14, 1951, near Tatitlek, Alaska, an Alaska Native Service station reported flares in the sky. The flares were seen to the north-northwest at various times over those nights, including between about 0630 and 0645 (around midday Greenwich time) on one date.

The report was relayed through military communications channels and noted that the same flares had been sighted on three previous nights at about the same time. Civilian aviation authorities and a rescue unit were also notified.

The Air Force recorded the case in Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports. The conclusion was that this was a report of flares, not a UFO.
