Project Blue Book Case File
San Francisco, CaliforniaMarch 1955
Summary
On March 18, 1955, at night, a civilian in San Francisco, California, reported one round, pinkish-orange object. It was about the size of a pin head held at arm's length. The object arced across the sky from northwest to northeast over about 20 seconds. The weather was foggy.
The observer did not see the object disappear.
The Air Force said the short sighting time and sudden disappearance suggested a turn in the flight path of a jet, possibly the afterburner of a jet. The case was listed as possibly aircraft, and no investigation was ordered.
