Summary

On September 22, 1956, at about 3:45 a.m., four observers at or near Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas reported one round, intensely bright white object about the size of a nickel held at arm's length. One witness said it had several exhausts around its outer edge that seemed to make it move counter-clockwise.

The object was first seen at 340 degrees azimuth and 75 degrees elevation and disappeared at 110 degrees azimuth and 75 degrees elevation. It first looked like a falling star, but as it got closer to the earth it appeared larger. While moving from north-northwest to east-southeast it made several erratic movements before disappearing behind the clouds. It was watched for about ten minutes.

The duration was too short for a balloon, and the wind data did not fit that idea. The report noted the possibility of an aircraft because of the duration and motion, but no aircraft were in the area. The Air Force found the report insufficient for analysis.
