Summary

On May 16, 1961, a civilian saw an object near San Antonio, Texas, by ground visual observation. The object was circular, about the size of a half dollar, and brilliant white. It appeared at about 45 degrees elevation and 15 degrees azimuth, and disappeared at about 10 degrees elevation and 70 degrees azimuth.

The object had a steady path of flight with no maneuvers or change in speed. It disappeared suddenly because trees blocked the view.

The Air Force concluded the object was probably the satellite Echo I.
