Project Blue Book Case File
San Antonio, TexasMarch 1957
Summary
On March 28, 1957, a civilian near San Antonio, Texas, reported a single object around dusk. The case was logged under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The object was shaped like a large star, about the size of a baseball, and was white and very bright. It turned pink as the sun went down, and a shaft appeared from the top.
The witness, driving along, spotted the bright light. The object stayed stationary, then went up a short distance and disappeared. It was watched for about 10 to 15 minutes. The sky was clear with 15 miles visibility.
The U.S. Weather Bureau advised that a skyhook type balloon released from San Angelo was plotted to be over San Antonio about 16 minutes before the sighting. The Air Force concluded the sighting was caused by sunlight reflecting off that balloon, and the object disappeared as the sun set. The card carried it as a balloon.
