Project Blue Book Case File
San Antonio, TexasJanuary 1949
Summary
On January 20, 1949, at about 1835 (6:35 p.m.), a soldier named Master Sergeant Ellis C. Stone saw an object in the sky near San Antonio, Texas. He was about 6.2 miles northeast of the city, near the intersection of Judson Road and Nacogdoches Road. The report became part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
Stone described the object as shaped like a sphere. He said its color was a glowing bluish green mixed with a yellow tinge. It moved from the east-southeast toward the northwest in a gliding way, from his right to his left. It was in sight for about 5 seconds. It was first seen at about 15 degrees above the horizon and dropped to about 12 degrees before it went out of sight over a small hill.
The object had a trail. The trail was light pink with bright red sparks spraying from it. The trail was several times longer than the object was wide. Army intelligence noted that other people in the area might also have seen it and would be interviewed. The local airport reported no unusual air activity that evening.
