Sagatuck, MichiganJuly 1962
Summary
On July 6, 1962, a civilian swimming at a Lake Michigan beach near Saugatuck, Michigan, reported an object. He saw it three times, at about 11:51 p.m., 12:04 a.m., and 12:32 a.m. Eastern time, for about one minute each time.
The observer at first took it to be a meteor. The object was bright and distant, with two colors: red on the leading part and white on the rear. It moved steadily from east to west and covered an arc of about 25 to 30 degrees each pass. He thought it had satellite characteristics, but noted it moved opposite to known satellites.
This report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force asked the witness for more information but received no reply. Officials concluded there was insufficient data for evaluation and noted possible meteor activity.
