Project Blue Book Case File
Reseda, CaliforniaApril 1957
Summary
On April 5, 1957, a civilian at Reseda, California, reported a single object. The case was logged under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The object was a cigar shaped core about the size of a DC-6 aircraft at 1,000 to 1,500 feet, surrounded by an elliptical golden glow about one and a half times as long as it was wide.
The core was about five times brighter than the outer glow and was a yellow, flickering color. The object showed no details, no sound, no trail, and no exhaust. It was first seen in the west by northwest at about 60 degrees elevation. It stayed mostly still, and what little movement it made was toward the observer. It disappeared suddenly, like a light being switched off, after three to five minutes.
The witness later wrote to the Air Force and was interviewed by a special agent. The Air Force noted the time of day was not included and there were no other reports from the area that date. The case was listed as insufficient data, with the card raising the possibility of an aircraft approaching the observer.
