Summary
On July 16, 1956, in Puyallup, Washington, a civilian reported one object at about 7:30 p.m. local time. It was a ground visual sighting. The witness used binoculars of unknown power.
The object was oval and about the size of a weather balloon. It was red on one side and appeared winged. The object seemed to be ascending. It faded from sight after an unknown period.
The Air Force concluded on its Project 10073 record card, the official record for unidentified flying object reports, that the object was definitely a weather balloon. The balloon had been released from the Seattle-Tacoma airport about half an hour before the sighting.
