Project Blue Book Case File
Point Lookout, MarylandOctober 1955
Summary
On October 11, 1955, from about 2100Z to 2330Z, two civilians saw an object near Point Lookout, Maryland, at Cornfield Harbor. The men were from West Hyattsville, Maryland; one worked as a clerk. The sighting lasted about 2.5 hours.
The object was described as round, about the size of a baseball, and white, turning red after sunset. After dark it gave off sparks. When the sparks appeared, the object itself seemed to disappear and then reappear after the sparks faded. It made a deep roaring sound, not like an aircraft, and left a trail of sparks. The object stayed almost directly overhead, circling, and did not move off. The weather was very good with clear visibility and no clouds.
The preparing officer wrote that the main witness did not seem to be seeking publicity and reported the sighting only after co-workers urged him to. The Air Force record card lists the case as unidentified.
