Project Blue Book Case File
Peril Strait, AlaskaJuly 1950
Summary
On July 8, 1950, between about 2:00 and 2:02 p.m., Coast Guardsmen aboard a ship in Peril Strait, Alaska, saw an object overhead. The witnesses were military crew members. The weather was clear, with light winds and good visibility.
They described one object made of two oval discs joined by a strut. It was opaque white and looked about 100 feet by 60 feet. They estimated it was about 15,000 feet high and moving roughly 350 miles per hour on a heading of about 290 degrees. No sound was heard above the ship's noise, and there was no visible exhaust trail.
The object was first seen directly overhead. The crew watched it bank and climb while holding its course for about two and a half minutes before it disappeared beyond a high headland. They saw the bottom, side, and end views as it moved. The Air Force record card lists the case as unidentified.
