Project Blue Book Case File
Ozona, TexasOctober 1959
Summary
On October 28, 1959, an object was watched for about seven hours near Ozona, Texas. Both civilians and military personnel observed it, from about 1300Z to 2000Z. They measured its position with binoculars and a surveyor's transit.
The object was a sphere about the size of a pinhead at arm's length, silver and red, and appeared to have two red projections. It moved slowly, roughly with the moon but slightly faster. The witnesses recorded its changing azimuth and elevation through the transit. A T-33 jet was vectored to the area but made no identification.
The recorded positions matched the location of the planet Venus during the sighting. The Air Force record card lists the case as astronomical, identified as Venus. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
