Project Blue Book Case File
Okinawa, November 1954November 1954
Summary
On November 7, 1954, military and civilian witnesses on Okinawa observed three bright objects in the sky. Two of the objects were brilliant blue, and one was bright orange. The witnesses watched the objects for between 20 and 30 minutes. All three objects remained at the same altitude and were evenly spaced about one mile apart. They did not disappear during the observation.
The Air Force Office of Scientific Intelligence (OTIC) considered several explanations. Investigators noted that the objects could have been stars or other heavenly bodies, but this was thought unlikely. The file also notes that Dr. Robinson suggested the objects could have been weather balloons (a balloon used to measure atmospheric conditions). The ATIC record indicates the file's conclusion was "possibly balloon," though the OCR is too garbled in places to confirm every detail of the analysis.
