Project Blue Book Case File
Oak Ridge, Tenn, January 1951January 1951
Summary
On January 16, 1951, about 9:45 p.m. local time, five civilians in a car reported a light near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The observers, moving northeast, viewed the object through the right rear window. They described an unusually bright light that stayed stationary for about five minutes. They first thought it was an aircraft, but it was not moving. Plant authorities were checked, but nothing was found to account for the sighting.
The Air Force listed its conclusion as insufficient data for evaluation. Investigators noted that the first magnitude star Rigel was low on the horizon in that direction, while the planets Venus and Jupiter were not visible in the east. No mention of how the object disappeared was given.
