Project Blue Book Case File
NW Korea, April 1953April 1953
Summary
On April 3, 1953, at about 0235 (use of the I time zone), a military crew reported an object over northwest Korea. One report names Lt. Colonel John K. Dillon, a B-26 pilot flying night armed reconnaissance at 5,000 feet at about 200 miles per hour. A second crew on a separate B-26 also reported a sighting.
Dillon saw a bluish green object about 200 feet from his aircraft, flying level and parallel with the plane. It turned from bluish green to white, then to red, and burned out, leaving a trail when it turned red. It was in sight at least two seconds. Its speed was estimated as very fast, near supersonic. The second crew, with three members, saw a fast object that changed color from green or white to red and grew larger before disappearing, lasting about three to ten seconds. They estimated it was about five feet across.
The object made no reported sound and showed high speed and a downward path. The approving officer said it was probably an unusually large meteor. The Air Force concluded the cause was astronomical, a meteor.
