Project Blue Book Case File

New Carlisle, OhioJune 1963

Unidentified

Summary

On the evening of June 25, 1963, a civilian in New Carlisle, Ohio saw a bright object that resembled a star moving across the night sky toward the northeast. The witness watched the object appear to fade out and then reappear twice during the sighting. The object flew in a straight, level path for most of the observation before making a turn to the right near the end.

The object eventually disappeared by fading away. Throughout the sighting, its appearance remained consistent with that of a bright star. The witness was able to observe it under clear sky conditions.

Air Force investigators reviewed the case and concluded that the flight characteristics and duration of the sighting were consistent with an aircraft. They found nothing in the reported details that would suggest the object was anything other than a normal aircraft observation. On the official evaluation form, the U.S. Air Force labeled the case "unidentified," though their analysis pointed toward a conventional explanation.
