Summary

On an August night in 1962 in Maywood, Illinois, a witness watched a bright yellow object moving slowly across the sky, passing behind clouds as it traveled from west to southwest. The object seemed solid and glowing, roughly the size of a large passenger plane. As it moved, its shape appeared to change and its edges looked fuzzy or blurred. No sound accompanied it. The whole sighting took place under bright moonlight.

The observer was looking in a westerly direction when the object first appeared. It remained visible for some time before disappearing behind a cloud to the southwest. The witness noted that the object moved steadily but not smoothly, and its flight path was not entirely level.

A search through the available file text shows limited additional details about the investigation. The U.S. Air Force requested more information from the witness using a formal questionnaire, which was sent to him with a request that he complete and return it. The Air Force examined the raw observational data but the case file does not contain any detailed analysis, radar confirmation, or investigative conclusions beyond the initial evaluation.

The U.S. Air Force classified this sighting as unidentified. No explanation was offered based on the materials held in this file, which runs 43 pages as held by the National Archives.
