Summary

On the afternoon of May 22, 1961, two women sitting on a back patio at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida spotted an unusual object in the sky. One of the witnesses, Mrs. S., noticed what she described as a bright, silvery disc roughly the size of a volleyball. The object appeared to be stationary but was rotating in place. Mrs. S. called her neighbor's attention to it, and both women watched for about 15 minutes as the sun reflected off its surface. They estimated the object was located toward the base and appeared to be southeast of their position, at an elevation angle of about 3.9 degrees. The weather was clear, with good visibility.

The object behaved unlike any aircraft either witness had seen. It made no sound and produced no exhaust or trail. It remained fixed in one spot while slowly revolving. Then, without warning or gradual movement, it simply vanished. The women said it disappeared all at once, somewhere around 4:30 p.m. local time.

The sighting was reported to the Air Force, and MSGT Henry J. Lacour, an assistant UFO officer at Tyndall Air Force Base, compiled a formal report. The case was categorized as a ground-visual observation. However, the available pages do not clearly indicate what conclusion the Air Force reached about the object's identity. The case file spans 9 pages and is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
