Summary
On August 28, 1952, about 7:15 p.m. (one statement says about 5:00 p.m.) Pacific Standard time, two Air Force airmen sunbathing near Edgemont, about two miles north of March Air Force Base, California, reported one oval-shaped object. It left no vapor trail and made no sound. They estimated it was at 20,000 to 25,000 feet and flew a straight course from northwest to southeast.
The object was visible only while it was in the sun's rays and disappeared when it left them. The airmen said it moved two to three times faster than a conventional jet fighter and was in sight about 30 seconds. One airman said it first looked like a clear light bulb and reflected sunlight in a way unlike a military plane. About 5 to 10 minutes later, a jet fighter flew in the direction the object had come from.
Sky conditions were clear. No observing instruments were used, and the reliability of the witnesses could not be judged. The record card notes jet aircraft were in the area and that many balloons were released around that time. Project 10073 is the Air Force's record for unidentified flying object reports. The conclusion is listed as unknown.
