Summary

Shortly after midnight on June 2, 1949, a security inspector driving near Los Alamos, New Mexico saw a green ball of light in the sky. His attention was drawn by its bright light and color. The object descended from east to north at about a 40 degree angle and trailed a long, unbroken green tail that was as wide as the object itself. It was self-luminous and stayed in view for only about one second before it disappeared. The sky was clear. The Air Force logged the sighting on a Project 10073 record card, its official form for unidentified aerial object reports, and concluded that the object was astronomical, most likely a meteor.
