Summary

On December 21, 1950, about 7:40 a.m., a civilian reported a bright object near Los Alamos, New Mexico. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The observer described a round object, brilliant green in color, moving at very fast speed for about three seconds. He first thought it was a meteorite because it appeared suddenly, light orange and yellow, with a short tail of flame. It then began to flare up, growing bright green, larger, and brighter. It seemed to sputter or fade a few times, giving off short spurts of red flame around its edges. It turned a brilliant, flaring green, died down slightly, and then abruptly went out, appearing to burn out just before reaching the ground. The object made no sound and gave off no odor.

The Air Force listed its conclusion as a meteor observation.
