Los Alamos, N.M., March 1949 - Incident Number: 275March 1949

Insufficient Data

Summary

On March 3, 1949, at 1:59 a.m., an Atomic Energy Security Service inspector sitting outside a building at Los Alamos, New Mexico saw a bright green light drop almost straight down out of the sky. The light appeared east-northeast of his location at Station 101. He was facing east and talking to a Lieutenant Buckley when he noticed it. The light remained bright the entire time he watched it.

The observer described the object as bright green in color. It fell nearly straight down, and the sighting lasted only a few seconds. The weather at the time featured broken clouds at 25,000 feet. No sound was reported.

The observer had a complete background investigation on file, as required for his employment with the Atomic Energy Security Service. The case file does not provide a final Air Force conclusion about what the object was.
