Summary

On December 27, 1957, near Littleton, New Hampshire, two civilians reported a single bright object in the night sky. The sighting lasted about 3 to 4 minutes. The object was round, about the size of a pea held at arm's length, and white in color. It looked like one bright light, similar to a landing light, brighter and larger than a star but not as large as the moon. There was no sound. The object stayed in one place and seemed to brighten and dim without a regular pattern. The witnesses saw it toward the southwest, low in the sky, while glancing out a car window. One witness was a former Air Force pilot. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the object was the planet Venus, based on its description, direction, and elevation.
