Project Blue Book Case File
Levelland, TexasNovember 1957
Summary
On November 7, 1957, a civilian near Levelland, Texas reported an unusual object in the night sky. The sighting lasted about 30 minutes. The object looked like two basketballs, one sitting on top of the other, with a horizontal bar between them. It had two antenna-like parts on the bottom, with the left one longer than the right. The top was red and the bottom was blue-white. Witnesses said it moved, stopped, then moved again.
The object headed to the south-southwest. The report came from local people, including a city police unit. This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The Air Force listed the case as probably astronomical. Officers noted that Venus was very bright at the time and sat in almost the same position as the reported object. A wing operations officer thought the witnesses saw an aircraft or a balloon. The card noted the sighting happened near an earlier widely reported event in the same area.
