Project Blue Book Case File
Lagrange, GeorgiaDecember 1957
Summary
On the night of December 21, 1957, a witness in LaGrange, Georgia reported seeing a very bright object in the sky. The sighting lasted only about two seconds. The object appeared bright blue-white and resembled an arc light, the kind used in theatrical or industrial settings. To the witness, it looked like a shooting star moving at extremely high speed before vanishing from view.
The object was traveling southward and appeared to be between 15 and 20 miles high, according to the observer's estimate. The Air Force recorded that the witness could not determine how far away the object actually was or how fast it was moving.
The Air Force's official evaluation form noted that the earth was passing through several meteor showers at the time of the sighting. However, the file indicates there was insufficient data for a proper evaluation of what the witness saw. The case was marked unidentified by the U.S. Air Force.
