Summary
On October 1, 1954, at 1:30 p.m. in Kew Gardens, New York, a civilian observer reported seeing one circular, blue object through a telescope and compass. The object stood still for half an hour, then disappeared to the north. The witness used a telescope and compass for observation. The sighting lasted one hour total. No photographs or physical evidence were collected. The Air Force concluded the sighting was astronomical, identifying the object as the planet Mars based on its position and the timing of Mars's setting at the moment of disappearance.
