Summary
# Summary
On October 31, 1957, at approximately 1600 (4 p.m.), a woman named Mrs. Murине saw a round, silver object near Kanopolis, Kansas. She described the object as being about the size of a silver dollar. It made no sound and moved very slowly and very low in the sky, traveling steadily toward the southeast. The observation lasted one hour and thirty-five minutes before the object faded into the distance.
The woman was outdoors at the time and used no optical aids to view the object. The weather was clear with scattered clouds at an unknown altitude. When the Air Force investigated, it sent two F-82-C fighter aircraft to the area, but they found nothing when they arrived at the estimated location. Radar contact was never made with the object.
In its final assessment, the Air Force concluded the object was probably a balloon of some type. The file notes that the object appeared to be moving with the wind, which supported the balloon explanation.
