Summary

On the night of August 27 to 28, 1956, a witness in Juniata, Pennsylvania saw one circular object with a clear dome on top. It looked about two to three feet across and had a very bright light that lit up the witness's back yard. The object rose straight up, gaining altitude, then headed north at high speed. The witness watched it for about three minutes before it faded out of sight. This was a civilian, ground visual report.

The same file also includes a separate sighting near Dayton, Ohio on August 27, 1956. A witness there saw one bright object like a star, about the size of a basketball, that seemed to grow smaller. An Air Force captain checked that report and identified it as the planet Mars.

The reports were filed on Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
