Jamaica, Long Island, New YorkSeptember 1959

Unidentified

Summary

Just before daybreak on September 17, 1959, a civilian driving a car near Jamaica, Long Island, New York, saw a single object for one to three minutes. It was a gray-white sphere described as about a block long.

The object moved fast, traveling about a mile toward the east at roughly 45 degrees above the ground. The weather was clear with visibility of 15 miles or more.

The Air Force noted the description sounded like a cloud and that the witness's estimates of size and speed could not be judged. A check with the weather bureau brought no identification. Follow-up questions were sent but no answer was received. The card lists the case as insufficient data. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
