Summary

On December 9, 1957, at 10:47 p.m., two pilots took off from Itazuke Air Base, Japan, on a magnetic heading of 315 degrees. They sighted a lighted object with no particular shape that appeared larger than a star and changed colors between white, orange, and red. The object remained at a constant position relative to their aircraft. Observers could not determine the distance to the object. The sighting lasted 10 to 15 minutes before the object permanently faded from sight. The investigators concluded there was very little doubt the UFO was Venus. Precise angular measurements given by the pilots assisted in this determination.
