Project Blue Book Case File

Irondequoit, New YorkJuly 1959

Unidentified

Summary

On July 5, 1959, at approximately 2000 to 2030 hours (8:00 to 8:30 p.m.), a witness in Irondequoit, New York, saw an unidentified object in the sky. The object was brownish-black with a white bubble or sphere in its center. The front edges appeared thicker than the trailing edges, and the overall shape resembled a quarter moon with a part trailing off the back. No sound was heard. The witness observed the object for only seconds, but reported it moved with tremendous speed and performed maneuvers.

The Air Force concluded it was unable to determine what the witness saw. The file notes that while a meteor was considered as a possibility, this explanation did not fully account for the object's apparent maneuverability and the level of detail the witness reported observing in such a brief time period. Without radar confirmation, additional witnesses, or physical evidence, investigators had insufficient data to reach a firm conclusion.
