[ILLEGIBLE], [ILLEGIBLE] 1950Circa 1950
Summary
On July 15, 1950, a man assigned to Los Alamos, New Mexico saw a bright metallic object from a window. He described it as aluminum colored and shaped like a flying wing. The sighting lasted about one minute.
The observer was interviewed on July 19, 1950, and provided details about what he had witnessed. He said the object appeared on July 16, 1950, at around 1415 hours (2:15 p.m. mountain standard time). He watched it from a north-facing window of the Oma Building at Los Alamos. The object was positioned roughly 128 miles away at an angle of 15 degrees above the horizon. It measured approximately 35 feet across and traveled from east to west over a mountain range at a speed of about 500 miles per hour. The object moved in a generally straight path, though its course varied slightly. The observer reported no sound, no lights, and no visible means of propulsion or control.
The Air Force interviewer noted that the observer had average ability to judge distances and that his reliability was unknown. No other witnesses were reported, and the observer had no history of previous UFO sightings. The file contains no final Air Force conclusion about what the object was.
