Project Blue Book Case File
Hyattsville, MarylandJuly 1962
Summary
On the evening of July 3, 1962, someone in Hyattsville, Maryland reported seeing a bright object in the sky. The witness described it as looking like lightning, solid in appearance, with clearly defined edges. The object moved from the northeast toward the southwest.
The sighting was brief, and the witness noted that the object disappeared in the southeastern direction. According to the case file, the sighting had characteristics similar to a meteor, though the evaluation remained inconclusive.
The file contains a standard Air Force questionnaire completed by the witness, along with sketches and directional notations. However, much of the detailed witness information and investigative notes are difficult to read due to OCR errors and the quality of the scanned pages. The Air Force marked the case as "Unknown" in its final evaluation, meaning the investigation did not result in a conventional explanation.
The full case file, totaling nine pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
